Strange tape deck issue

Hello,

Got my friend a nifty Bluetooth cassette tape thing that plays through the stereo. The problem I'm having though is the drivers side door speakers are quite weak compared to when listening to the radio or CD. I'm reaching out to the older crowd here who grew up with tape decks. Would cleaning whatever makes a tape work fix this issue?
